I am experiencing difficulties booting a Pro WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI motherboard with an AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X CPU.
Other components in the config:
CPU cooler = Noctua NH-U14S TR5-SP6
GPU = Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5080 WINDFORCE OC SFF
RAM = 4 x 64GB Samsung ECC REGISTERED DDR5 2Rx4 4800MHz PC5-38400 RDIMM | M321R8GA0BB0-CQK
SSD = Samsung 9100 PRO 2TB M.2 SSD

At first boot, the motherboard shows error code 00 . Since the Threadripper 9000 series is quite recent, I assumed the issue could be solved by updating the BIOS.

I downloaded the latest BIOS update (see link below), placed the A5497.CAP file on a freshly formatted 16GB FAT32 USB stick , inserted it into the BIOS USB port, and pressed the BIOS Flashback button. The indicator light blinked slowly, then faster, and finally turned off after about 10 minutes.

However, after rebooting, the system shows the following error code sequence: 00 → 88 → E5 → 46 → 00 (stuck) .
To rule out potential issues with the USB drive, I repeated the process with another USB stick formatted in FAT32 (MBR, since GPT was not recognized) . The BIOS update appeared to complete successfully, but the motherboard still fails to initialize the CPU and shows the same error sequence.
Since error 46 may relate to memory, I also tested with only a single RAM stick in slot A1 , but the issue persists.

My current assumption is that, despite the update, this motherboard may still not be compatible with the Threadripper 9000 series , specifically the 9960X.

Anyone has information on that?

Thank you so much

Hi,

I did a quick search on the memory QVL of your motherboard and your memory kit (M321R8GA0BB0-CQK) is not listed.

This is probably the source of the memory error you are getting. DDR5 is quite sensitive, so that can result in errors.

I would suggest trying a memorykit that is listed on the QVL.
