ASRock Radeon RX 6750 XT fan speeds

Hi all,

Sorry for writing in English! My written dutch is not good enough to explain this technical issue I am having. If you want to reply in Dutch, that's fine with me 🙂

I am hoping this forum can give some advice. In June last year, I upgraded to a RX 6750 XT.
The card has been working fine, until about 2 months ago.
The first strange behavior is that on boot, the fans got to 100% fan speed (sounds like a jet!), but stop at the windows log-in screen (I can live with that tbh).
But now the card will also push the fans to 100% when I am in games - even at low temps (45-55 degrees). And the sound is terrible. If I jump back to windows (alt-tab), the fans stop, and as soon as I go back into the game, they fire up again!

I have tried to adjust the fan speeds, and set a max, but it seems to only be able to have the fans idle, or at 100%. The card is not responding to changes I make in AMD Adrenaline or in MSI Afterburner.

The only thing that seems to work (but not all the time) is if I use AMD Adrenaline and undervolt the card. But this does not work all the time, and I do not like to have to do this for all games - and its literally all games from Space Marine 2 to Factorio!

I am a casual gamer, maybe play 4-5 times a month, for relatively short periods, and the computer is always switched off when not in use.

Any tips? Or is it maybe just defective now? No blue screens or crashing, just crazy fan speeds and noise!

My specs are:

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
GPU: ASRock Radeon RX 6750 XT
Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M DS3H AC
RAM: 32GB
PSU: bequiet 650W

Thanks!

From what card did you upgrade? Was it a AMD card as well?
If that is not the case, and you switched from a nVidia card, did you do a full wipe of the GPU drivers?

Yes, I did a full wipe of drivers using DDU.
I also checked bios version of the GPU and it’s the latest version

Is it just specific games or all of them? what resolution are you playing at? are your in-game settings really high?

Pretty much all games, and game does not even need to be running, can be in the game menu too.
Changed settings to low and it’s the same

Would you mind capping the FPS to like 60 or so in a game to see if the GPU usage goes down?

Are you using a global experience preset in AMD adrenaline (like HYPR-RX etc)? that might boost the GPU usage.

Just tried that. Lowered the fps to 60, and tried a few options in Adrenalin.
Changing to low settings and 1080p does change the behaviour a little, but now it’s more bursts of the fans going to 100% every few seconds, instead of constantly being on 100%.

It seems the GPU is working "overtime" so to speak. I would suggest trying out the V-Sync option in games. This should reduce the fan speed and utilisation.

Still the same problem. I’m afraid it’s the card itself. Maybe a faulty sensor..
I’m going to try and return it for repair since it’s still under warranty
Thanks for trying to help!
