Informatie en updates over de NVIDIA GeForce RTX50 serie videokaarten.

After several emails with the support team, it seems they won't accept coil whine as a valid reason for replacement under warranty. The only option available is a refund, but that process is far too lengthy, and I'm certain I won't be able to get a 5090 anytime soon.

I'm hoping that the PSUs I'll be testing tomorrow might help reduce or eliminate the coil whine. If it were at a moderate level, I wouldn't mind as much, but for those who haven't seen my previous posts, the noise is loud enough to be heard from every corner of my 18m² room (MSI RTX 5090 Gaming TRIO OC). The variations in sound are unbearable, and I can even hear it through my headphones.

If the PSU swap doesn't make a difference (I'll post an update, probably tomorrow evening), I'll either learn to live with it and hope it diminishes over time or consider going through the refund process, depending on the circumstances.

Are there any people who can explain why I'm unable to get a replacement ordered without going through a RMA process? In my home country, I could normally return the product within the withdrawal period and have a replacement issued or ordered without going through the warranty process. There was no need to place a new order, yet that doesn't seem to be the case here.
There are already multiple accounts of this problem online, so I gues its normal for these cards.(Not saying it should be normal for these products) Ive had coil whine with several 3080s 3080Ti's.

On Tweakers, I see 12 listings for RTX 5090 Founders Editions, all priced between €3500-€3900.
Scalpers trying to make a quick buck at the expense of others pathetic.

Just wait 8-12 weeks, don’t let them win!

Yeah, we all feel very sorry for you. Poor you.
I will light a candle for you with a screenshot of your sad comment on this forum next to it. 🕯️

Hopefully, this makes you feel better.

Just return it under your return window and buy some other 5090 card in a few weeks. Coil wine is not model related but rather depends on the individual card luck

I get that sarcasm is your go-to, but it's not really necessary is it? If you were in my position, I doubt you'd feel any different. I came here looking for help and some answers, not to pick a fight or deal with your type

But hey, if posting pictures makes you feel better, go for it, whatever helps you sleep at night 💋

Don't worry we don't need to see that. bye

damn, you’re really out here crying over a graphics card like it’s gonna whisper sweet nothings in your ear, maybe suck you off too 💀 your name says it all

hope you and your future 5090 have a long and happy life together 🥱

To anybody who's wanting a 5080:

Just be patient. In China at the moment(after the Chinese New Year), the supply of 5080 is boosting and most of them cost around 1300 eur - 1600 eur.

How insane that even 4080super here are at the same price as 5080 in China. So just now, I asked my friend in China to buy one Zotac 5080 OC for me and it's 'only' 10249 yuan (1360 eur).

5090/5090d is also insane there, around 3500-4500 eur. However, I must point out that they are indeed in stock on Chinese online shopping APPs. They'll ship to you immediately as long as you're willing to pay such a high price, which is significantly out of line with its actual value considering the facts:
  • potential problems of the first batch of 5090, like unstable BIOS and risks of melting your power supply cable. And they actually happened, not just my assumption
  • Probably most of the improvement of 5090 over 4090 comes from the higher power. If you overclock 4090 to 600 watts, you might be able to achieve performance not far from 5090
  • The most exclusive feature of 50 series is DLSS 4 and clearly, the image quality is not that good

You can see that most of them fall within the range of 10000-13000 Chinese yuan and there's only one out of stock. I'm quite certain the 5080 supply here will also increase very soon.

So once again, if you aim at 5080, be patient. Don’t let the scalpers win.

I know it's a Nederlands community, but sorry I'm not good at it. Meanwhile, I do not want anybody to become a victim of greedy, insatiable scalpers so I still type these messages

Oh no, ShevoK, my deepest condolences. Truly, this is a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions. You, the brave early adopter, the fearless spender, struck down in your prime by the cruel hands of coil whine.

Let us all take a moment of silence for your suffering. 🕯️

If only there were some way, some impossible, unfathomable way, to have known that brand-new, high-power GPUs might have coil whine. But alas, you had no choice but to rush in, wallet blazing, without waiting for reviews or testing. And now, here you are, seeking sympathy from the very people who warned against such impulse purchases.

But don’t worry, I’ll be here, shedding a single tear for your misfortune while I enjoy my well-researched, fully-functioning hardware 💋

I never seen so much hate until now 😅
What do you all have with this poor guy?
He bought a GPU and unfortunately it has coil whine. For me it’s actually a benefit of information to not choose MSI.

Oh Snellage dear 💋, your words so grand,
Yet ego wobbles, hard to stand
You prance and sneer, so wise, so bold
Yet still unpaid, or so I'm told

A tragic tale, your fate so dire,
Burning bright with smugness’ fire
I’ll light a candle, shed a tear,
For all the wit that isn’t here🕯️

I never seen so much hate until now 😅

It's all good! this is some of the best rage bait in replies I've seen in a while, I'm laughing my ass of. I'm glad you see it as a way to share useful information because that was my goal. I also wanted to have a discussion with the community to see if it could be somehow remediated. (it was actually Megekko themselves who told me to ask for help here, but I just left that part out of the email screenshot 😂)

He shoulda spent more money

I’d apologize to your parents, but I assume they’ve already tried and suffered enough

It’s fine.. this is the purest form of coping I’ve seen in a while and I’m actually impressed. Keep going, you’re doing great!

I've emailed @Megekko Info to see what can be done; Ideally, I'd prefer a replacement given how expensive the card was ( 3600 ), but I'm not sure about stock availability

I did my best to capture the sound, but my phone doesn't pick it up at the same decibel level and ends up sounding a bit softer, and also dampens it a lot; imagine the sound is heard in my entire room
  • First coil whine : A very high-pitched sound that occurs in game menus, while in general applications, or idle desktop (Steam, Chrome, etc.); at times, there's also a variation which resembles the sound of air escaping from a flat tire (that's the best way I can describe it, happens when I launch an app)

  • Second coil whine : This one happens specifically during gaming

there's also a choking (scratching/cracking) noise that I forgot to record; to describe it better, it sounds similar to an old hard drive writing data, but much worse
stop laughing at the guy, I know you were jealous guys, now you're happy it didn't work out for him... thanks to him we know to be careful with this product, you should be grateful and wish him luck.

Thanks.

I'd still return it. You bought it for it being a top tier AIB, I would imagine? (And not just to have a 5090) Yours is significantly worse than most of them that I've heard, and you paid the Megekko premium. Don't accept anything less than the standard for these.

Edit: Do agree with post above, try that diff PSU and let us know if it did anything.

MSI is a top tier AIB but he got the Gaming Trio which is the budget model so they probably skimped on component quality. The Suprim model has "high efficiency carbonyl inductors" with less choke noise (or so they say)

I think the Ventus is the MSRP model here tbh, the Gaming Trio is top tier I believe?
It was generally well received too, the Gaming Trio, so he definitely got a bad deal here.

Because the scarcity they have different policies on returns, i think. Its to prevent people from buying the 5080 and returning it with their old card in the box. Or i’m switching store policies with another store idk.
