Received and finished installing this guy, I hope there won't be any issues with PCIe 5 like others reported. I'll be doing a lot of testing tonight.

I hope you guys can get the card that you want soon, and at normal prices.. :D
(sorry for my desk, still messy from a previous flu)

give more information where did you buy it and for how much🙏

5090 was purchased from this website yesterday, at an overwhelming price

haha, yeah, this card doesn’t stand out too much visually, but on a vertical mount, I think it definitely would

I’ll likely share some screenshots here when I have time, since I don’t have the time to make a full video
Is that an Alternate PC? Thunderstorm? https://www.alternate.nl/PC/ALTERNATE-pcs

Looks like it..

nope, I haven't bought a pre-built system since I don't like them, I prefer building my own, I got the parts in December and have been waiting for the 5090 ever since

Specs:

  • PSU: ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold (chose it for the 12V-2x6 connector, could've went Corsair but whatever)
  • Motherboard: ASRock X870E Nova
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D (managed to get it -30/-40 undervolt with +175 stable; tested for almost a month using CoreCycler, y-cruncher, etc.)
  • Cooling: Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 AIO
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 64GB DDR5 (overclocked to 6200MHz with buildzoid’s timings for dual-rank Hynix)
  • GPU: MSI RTX 5090 Gaming TRIO OC
  • Case: Montech King 95 PRO
I'm using a 49" G9 Ultrawide monitor, so benchmarks won’t reflect the typical averages since it effectively renders at twice the resolution of 2K.

not sure if I'm forgetting anything, but in the end, I need the PC for professional work and to unwind with some gaming from time to time

Pleeeease change that glass front panel to the fully meshed one that was delivered with your case and rotate those side fans to the front and check your temps because if you're gonna be running like this your SSD is going to vaporize, throttle down or even die soon under constant 80-100 °C)

I’ve already tested it as you suggested and the difference was very minimal
I benchmarked the PC throughout December with a different GPU, and it never thermal throttled

M.2 temperatures stay below 70-75°C (can’t recall the exact numbers) on heavy load, while the CPU hits around 72-76°C max during heavy AVX2 testing and 50-60°C during gaming

Looks great! Happy for you it all ended up well.

I'm planning for a different 5090 but it's pretty much the same dimensions, since your case appears to be about 9mm wider (same for max cpu cooler height) I still think I'll have enough space in the HAF 700 EVO to fit the card horizontally.

I personally am not a huge fan of vertical mounts because it blows most of the heat directly to the motherboard, memory & the NVMe SSDs but aside of the personal preference (and well it differs per case configuration) there isn't really much with PCI-E 5.0 16x risers out there yet and apparently there are some technical difficulties with them on the 50-series which I am not sure if it's just the Founders with the ribbon cables being the culprit or all of them.

My NVMe drives are positioned next to the RAM in a DIMM.2 slot (2x 990 Pro 4TB) which currently always sit between 36-51°C ish, the RAM modules generally don't exceed 60°C in heavy load and that is with pretty modest fanspeeds.

And I've got a 10 year old Corsair AX1200i, bought Type4 600w both angled and non-angled 12v-2x6 600W cables for it (2x-8pins) and I'm just going to see how that plays out in multi-rail mode. The PSU is old but still performs flawlessly, the AXi series platforms by Flextronics were so good that they even today can't find a suitable replacement that is better hence why we still don't see Corsair ATX 3.1 PSUs in the AXi line-up.

Thermal Grizzly Wireview Pro is underway so hopefully once I can acquire a 5090 I can fit that on it with the sidepanel closed, will be kind of tight but it should fit, would be nice to see the current power draw and temps without needing software tools or overlays.

But for now the EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 will have to hold out for a bit longer, sitting at 2025/6003Mhz, extremely solid card it has been for 8 years straight.

yup, I'm happy I could finish the build too!

I went with this 5090 mainly because of stock availability, would've preferred the SOC or Aorus version instead, but it is what it is

yeah, I also dislike how vertical mounts heat up the motherboard, definitely something to consider besides the risers

I also wanted to get the Wireview, probably will grab one soon as well, should be a nice addition so I don't screw around with rivatuner or other overlays

Good that you thought about it ! If it already looked borderline back then and you're going to push a much stronger gpu now you better test again under full load. Once that card starts dumping all of its 600W on that M.2 block it won't be cooling much anymore :) :)
